The letters EMS stand for 'Easy Mind System'.
It was intended to be both easy and logical and is not a genetically based
system. It describes a cats breed, colour, pattern and eye colour.
An EMS code consists of a three letter breed code in upper case, followed by one
or more colour letters in lower case, then pattern and other numeric codes if
appropriate.
The following is an extract of the FIFe EMS System specific to Norwegian Forest
Cats.
NFO - Norwegian Forest Cat
a - Blue
d - Red
e - Cream
f - Black Tortie
g - Blue Tortie
n - Black (or Brown)
s - Silver or Smoke
w - White
y - Golden
x - an Unrecognised Color Variety
09 - Unspecified amount of White
21 - Unspecified Tabby pattern
22 - Blotched (or Classic) Tabby
23 - Mackerel Tabby
24 - Spotted Tabby
25 - Ticked Tabby
61 - Blue eyed
62 - Orange eyed
63 - Odd eyed
64 - Green eyed
